impound passport

I got married under hindu marriage act.My husband work in US on h1 visa.I came back to india because of torture.I have lodge 498a against him here in india.Police has issued lookout notice against him one month ago.As he is not in india so investigation has not started.So the case is in investigation stage.Can i request the court to impound my husband passport?Or as the case has not reached the court level so court cannot impound his passport now?

Registration of a FIR does not necessary mean that passport can be impounded.

If cruelty happened in US, whether courts in India will have any jurisdiction is doubtful.

You may request the "look out notice" issuing authorities and the Passport authorities for impounding of passport. Moreover, you may send a copy of the look out notice to concerned authorities like ICE, BCIS, local police etc. in USA, Indian embessy in USA, the US Embassy in India and his employer.
