India: Criminal Law: False Rape Allegations

Hi all, hopefully I can get a detailed response here.

My issue is this: Way back in 1999, I had a relationship with a girl from my then workplace, including a consensual physical relationship (a total of about three or four times). However, soon after *she* broke off the relationship with me and I planned to get married elsewhere (year 2000). A few days before the marriage in 2000, this person started to call me again and I duly informed her that I was getting married.

She then turned into a real dismal person and started harassing me, e.g. calling me and wanting to come for the marriage, wanting to meet my wife, and calling my parents to ask about my wife etc. Anyways, I did not respond to her and the one time we spoke on the phone, I told her that well, there is nothing for us to talk about anymore. The matter seemingly died down and have not heard from her since. Soon after our marriage, we too left India and settled abroad.

Now we are planning to visit India and I am worried that if I bump into her somewhere on the streets, she may cause trouble e.g. by falsely accusing me of e.g. rape. Is that a possibility and will it have dire consequences? Or am I just worrying too much?

You are worrying unnecessarily.Nevertheless,you can not stop any woman from levelling false allegations.Stop meetin her any giving any response to her and further donot meet her in lonely place.

An allegation of Rape may be possible. Though, same may not result in conviction. However, procedures delays and other harassment may be there.

By way of abundant precaution, you may make discreet inquiries to find out about present status.

As far as your girl friend bumping into you somewhere and causing other trouble has to be dealt with as and when occasion arises.

you need not worry well if a women wants to file allegations then she can anyways. but when you are on trip do not meet her at lonely place or stop keeeping any interactions
