Legal Question in Family Law in India

I am 26yrs old, and my husband is doing his M.S in USA. We went for a registered marriage one month ago.We have decided to keep this as a secret from my hsbands parents as somhow they were not ready for this marraige. My parents knew about my marriage plans and were witnesses for our marraige.

Know somehow my husbands parents got to know about our marriage, and they are blaming my parents. They came at my home did hell lot of arguments and now they are not allowing my husband to talk , to meet me...they are emotionally blackmailing him and my husband is also keeping mum and not talking a single word to me or he is not able to convince his parents. His father is pressurizing him for seperation.

me and my parents had been to his house to convince his parents. But they are not agreeing upon.I am unable to understand what needs to be done. I cant stay with him as he is studying in US still , and i dont want to stay with his parents as i dont have faith as my husband is not there.

I am working lady and earning well and want to stay with my husband in US or at my home.

please suggest if they can do any harm or file any legal case against us. If my husband dont support me under his parents pressure, then what can i do?

Poonam.

Hi Poonam,

You are entitled to complete protection under law. your in-laws cannot cause you any harm; on the contrary, if they cause you any kind of violence (as defined in D.V.A.), you may take police action against them.

You may join your husband in USA even if he is studying. If he is on F-1 (student) visa, you may immediately get F-2 visa and live with him here.

You need to be strong and determined and prepare your husband for clear decisions. Your husband's parents CANNOT cause you any harm in any manner.
