If you are a Hindu and in India, and do not intend taking the child out of country after adoption, you will need to follow the provisions of Hindu Adoptions & Maintenance Act. You can adopt a minor child who is more than 14 years younger to you.

To adopt a girl child -

1- she must be at least 21 years younger than you .

2- you must not have a girl child i.e. daughter at the time of adoption.
