My brother's wife has filed a divorce petition, its almost 1 year and now they are asking for out of court settlement, but they are asking for all the money she had spent when she used to stay with my brother along with jewellery and 200000 rupees + money spent on marriage. My question is can a wife ask for money which she had spent willingly during her stay with her husband?

Although the wife can ask for that kind of amount. But it would be advisable that you people should sit and decide for alimony amicably.
But here keep in mind that out of Court settlement has no relevance, go only through proper channel i.e. by filing a Mutual Divorce Petition.

She may be entitled to return of her money in the event of dispute and possible separation. It may be better to reach an amicable out of court settlement.
