Is it difficult to get a divorce in India

Can you please tell me if it is very difficult to get a divorce in india. I have a friend who is a catholic anglo indian married in church. He has separated with his wife for the past three years. They share two children who live with the mother. He says that he cannot get a divorce unless his wife agrees to divorce him!! He is their sole suppoter. I need to know can he get a divorce? What is the process in getting the divorce? He says that it could take him 6months, a year or two years - is this true? Please help me? Please I need to know what the divorce law is in India?

No, it is not difficult to get a divorce, even for a catholic anglo-indian in India. Ofcourse, your friend is right when he says that it may take quite some time, after a petition for divorce is filed, to get a decree for divorce. Such time could well may be any time between 6 months to three years.

If the wife copnsents to the divorce, the time factor may be reduced to even three months.
