Legal Question in Family Law in India

Is US divorce acceptable in INDIA for Indian citizen working in US, married in I

Hi,

Thanks for your noble service. I am an Indian citizen currently staying in the US on a work visa and got married in India in Feb 2000. Things didn't work out between me and my wife and I filed for a divorce here in a US court (on grounds of incompatibility). A divorce was granted after a divorce hearing in August 2001 where my wife claimed that we were compatible, but the Judge was convinced that we were not. Since our marriage was performed in India and was registered in India, do I need to 1) send the copy of divorce decree to the Indian court, and 2) do I need to file for divorce separately in India too. Basically is this divorce acceptable in India or what is that I need to get divorce in compliance with Indian laws.

Thanks and regards

Ash
