Divorce for forced marriage

Hello Sir/Madam,

My name is--name removed--aged 27years due to family pressure I was forced to marry a person whom i did not like on the 19th of May 2006. But now after a month i don't feel that this relationship will work and also the fact that i dislike this person whom i am married too. I would like to know how to go about applying for a divorce at the earliest. Kindly help.

Your question does not disclose all facts - hence reply not possible. Please repost question with all details, like, religion, date of marriage, marriage has been consumemated or not etc.

As per law you cannot institute a petition for divorce before one year from the date of marriage. A court shall entertain you petition only if you could show extreme hardship to the extent that it is likely to endanger your life.

2. please State whether you and spouse are hindus and marriage as per hindu rites?

Presuming you are a Hindu and married under the Hindu Marriage Act, you cannot initiate divorce proceedings before expiry of one year from date of marriage.

However, you may apply to court to grant you leave to initiate such proceedings, if you could satisfy the court of your hardship.

Has the marriage been consummated? If not, you could apply for annulment of the marriage.
