Legal Question in Family Law in India

I am a divorcee and the kid lives with me. Per our divorce papers, the kid can stay with me forever but the biological father has rights to see her on weekends. He has not visited the child even once yet. Now that I want to enrol my kid in a school, can I use my name (mother's name) as her surname and totally omit the biological father's name? If so, is there a legal procedure to do so? Or is it sole decision of me and the schools will accept?
