foreign marriage licence validity in us
dear sirs,
my husband and i are both naturalized us citizens residing in york state. we got married in india and never obtained a marriage licence in the us. please advise if this marriage will be treated as valid by us authroties and laws of which counrty and state will apply in case of divorse.

Your marriage will be Valid in US. You may apply for Divorce in whichever country you prefer .

If your marriage was valid in India and you have been living here in NY for at least the last year, then your marriage is valid here and you may file an action for divorce in NY courts. Consult an attorney about the specifics of your case before doing anything.

your marriage is valid but as per us law you must have to acquire licence.In case of divorce it is to be seen that under which law you got married.In your case it is upto you to decide where to file divorce case.you can file case both in us and India.

The marriage will certainly be treated as valid, assuming it was valid in India. The law governing any divorce would be the law of the state in which the divorce is sought. If you are residents of New York, it would be New York law.
