Legal Question in Family Law in India

I am in the US on an H-1 visa and and my wife has left me and gone back to India. I have been told that I can get a divorce in the United States even though we got married in India. If so, what is the legal status of the US divorce in India?

in case you got married in india, it is advisable to file a petition for divorce in india only and you can do the same by hiring a lawyer in india and you need not appear in person. even if you get divorce in US, you may have to get the same declared as valid in india. by filing it in india, you may save time and money.
