Legal Question in Family Law in India
Hi,
My sister is married for 5 yrs now. She has got a kid who is 4.
She's been constantly tortured mentally by her in laws. He husband although is not a party to all this, is nothing but a silent spectator. All he has to say that I can't go against my parents.
She's been constantly made to work starting from early morning to late night without any help or rest. She's been commented upon her looks frequently. They have some close relative working as IG. So they openly threat her saying that even if they kill her nothing will happen to them.
Their constant endevour is to to disrupt the relationship between her and her husband basis which they can keep taunting her. At times they threaten her that if ever her parents (my and my sister's parents) interfear and try and rescue, they'll get all of us arrested using the connection of the discussed IG.
The kid is small and loves both his father and mother. So no one, including my sister is in favor of divorce or separation. What are her legal rights. Is there a way they can be made to realize that there is law and their acts can bring serious implications.
Pls advice.

she may opt for complaint under DV Act and seek orders viz. residence, maintenance, compensation etc.....
My friend any action of yours (appearing to be correct at the time of taking) can lead to disaster in future.
Thus I would suggest you that think hundred times before taking any step. Further I would suggest that even before that try to have conversation with your sister's in-laws and resolve the issue amicably.

Your sister has lot of options which are in her favour and she should take action against the inlaws immediately . She can file a complaint before the crime against the women cell for beating ,taunting , demand of dowry etc. and a petition under the D V Act. for maintenance and residence etc.
complaint under domestic violence against her in laws .....
