irretrievable breakdown of marriage

My lawyer has told me that supreme court has granted many divorce on the ground of irretrievable breakdown of marriage.Is irretrievable breakdown of marriage a ground ground for divorce under hindu marriage act?

No, there is no such ground under HMA; However, at times the grounds of unreasonable and unexplained withdrawal from marital life, which is also covered under the legal ground of "desertion", is labeled as 'irretrievable breakdown'; same is the case with the legal ground of 'cruelty'.

We do not have divorce on the ground of "No fault theory" in India; nor "Irretrievable breakdown of marriage" is a ground for divorce under H.M.A.
