Legal Question in Family Law in India

How is the maintainence amount decided? My matrimonial joint family house was a very big house in a coloney where NRI s lived and I had a car only for myself. We had many servants too. But the house and lifestyle was maintained from combined income of all male members in joint family. Will I still be entitled to a high maintainence to maintain the lifestyle. My husband's annual salary is about 9 lacs p.a. in India and when he goes to US he is paid salary in US dollars, about $ 6500 pm.

Generally I have noticed that court gives maintainance of about 5000 rs or so.

normally you should be entitled to approximately Rs.25,000/- per month, depending of course on several other factors.

the maintenance is granted as per the living standard of the husband and in your case, the quantum of maintenance would depend upon the sole income of husband alone and not the joint family.
