Legal Question in Family Law in India

Marriage after conversion

Hi,

I am looking for some information/advice regarding Religion conversion procedures from you.

I am a Hindu and my fiance was a muslim. He has now converted to Hinduism in a temple in Coimbatore. (He is from Coimbatore). The temple has given him a certificate after the conversion.

Now is there any legal procedure involved? The temple has given a new name for him in the certificate, but we do not want to carry forward the new name(ie we do not want to do the name change).

So, wrt the religion conversion, is there any legal formalities involved?

Also, if we do not carry forward with the name change, will there be any issues? We are planning to get a register marriage done in november. Is the name change compulsary as per the Hindu marriage act?

It will be a great help if you could let me know.

Re: Marriage after conversion

(a) name change is not required under Hindu Marriage Act;

(b) conversion is not required for a valid marriage under Hindu Marriage Act

(c) Hindu Marriage Act permits inter religious marriages; only one of the parties should be Hindu at the time of marriage.

you may go ahead with registeration of the marriage even without producing the conversion certificate.

wish you all the best for a happy married life.! God bless you!!
