Legal Question in Family Law in India

About Marriage

Sir,

My girlfriend and me have decided to get married on Dec2008 without the permission of our parents as they are not ready to do so because my girlfriend is brahmin. So what should we do that they never put up any judicial pressure on us. What are the legal procedures to do the marriage lawfully?

Re: About Marriage

Assuming both of you are adults and Hindu by religion, there are two options :

(1) You may marry under Special Marriage Act. You may be required to file an application in the court and the court will notify inviting objections and may finally grant you marriage certificate if no valid objections are received within stipulated period;

(2) You may go ahead with the marriage as per ceremonies in the presence of friends and/or relatives and thereafter seek registration of marriage.

Re: About Marriage

in case you are above 21 years of age and the girl is above 18 and you both are unmarried, you can get the marriage registered before the registrar. but there is a word of caution. you need to ascertain that this is not a hasty decision and u both are matured enough to take the responsibilities of marriage. if you overlook this factum, u may end up spoiling lif eof each other.
