Legal Question in Family Law in India
I have been married for past 1 and a half years and have a 1 month old boy from it. My Father had remarried after the death of my mother and has 2 kids, an elder daughter and one son (myself) from the first marriage and one daughter from the re-marriage. I was 2 years old when my father remarried and my stepmother has been taking care of the kids since then and we are one family with no issues. All my relatives are aware of the situation including my elder sister's in-laws after her marriage.
Well before my marriage, my wife's family was made aware that my mother had expired and my stepmother took care of the kids since then. They were in verbal agreement and also requested that this matter be within the families and marriage was fixed accordingly. However, after marriage my in-laws have started harassing me stating that they have been cheated and say they have proof like Marriage invitation and Matrimonial advertisement showing no signs of a remarriage between my parents. They are threatening me of filing a case regarding the same if I don't listen to their ways. As the re-marriage is a well known fact within my family and relatives, kindly let me know if there is an option for them to file a case on these grounds or if I can file a complaint of mental harassment against them. Appreciate your earliest response.

I disagree with Mr. Gupta. There is no case made out of for defamation. However their threats come within the meaning of section 503 IPC and punishable u/s 506 IPC. To prempt any foul play by them intimate the women cell and SHO of both the area of your residence and her parents residence alongwith a compaint u/s 506 of IPC; if they do not calm down or create a ruckus at your home then immediately call the PCR at 100 and show them the acknowledgements of the letter and complaint. I am sure they would calm down after that. Be Bold take this step.
