Legal Question in Family Law in India
I am asking this question on behalf of my sister who is not living with her husband now. I am suspicious about my brother-in-law. I have reason to believe he was never serious about the marriage from the beginning.
I think he has not updated his official records with his marital status (after he got married to my sister in Aug 2007). He works at a government hospital in Delhi, India. Do you think I can walk up to the administration department of the hospital and ask them to check if he has updated his records. Isn't he supposed to do that after marriage by any Hindu marital law? I just want to be sure, his marriage is a public knowledge among his colleages and the proper records show the same.
Appreciate your help. Thank you.

Yes certainly. If a man hides his marriage from the place of his work, then it is certainly suspicious.
You can easily find out about his marital status and other entitlements records.

You or your sister are not even sure if he has informed his office. However, there is no legal requirement for him to inform his employer about marriage unless he may consider changing / adding his nominee.
There is no need to be panic. Your action may be premature and you may better wait unless his behaviour towards his wife is in any way wrong or unbecoming..
