Registration of marriage

My husband and I got married on January 3, 2008 in a Christian Church in Kerala. I have heard that we need to register our marriages in the registrar's office again for proving validity of the marriage? Is this true? Could you tell me what the procedure of going about this?

What is the time period within which we need to get this marriage registered?

Is the church marriage certificate valid, or this entire process of getting the marriage registered necessary according to the Compulsory Registration of Marriage, 1996 law?

On the basis of marriage certificate issued by the Church, you may seek registration of your marriage with the local Registrar of Marriages (Office of Collector).
