can i sell the furniture in my husband's house?
i am living in my husband's house in chennai. it is his house, but the property is in his mother's name. he has left me and gone away to USA and is not supporting me in any way. i have no job. we were married for 2 months when he left, it has been almost 10 months since he left. i have no money to maintain myself. i was wondering if i could sell of the furniture in the house to enable me to get some money to buy food etc. are there any legal implications to this. this was furniture he had bought before the wedding.
he has got a divorce decree from US which is not valid in india my lawyer says. life has become very difficult for me. i am in debts of above 30,000 rupees now and need money desperately. pls. do advise.

File a maintainence case against your husband.

As you know, US divorce decree is not valid in India. You are entitled to initiate criminal proceedings against your husband for domestic violence and may dispose of your assets to maintain yourself.

You can file maintenance case against your husband and you can also file a case under domestic violence act.
