Legal Question in Family Law in India

Sir, on march 12, my friend got married and just after a month she was brought back by parents due to the intolerable cruel behaviour of her husband, and to her dismay they were living away from in-laws, and till today i.e., 8 feb, 2010 she is staying with her parents. Few month back he also sent her a notice for mutual divorce, but doesn't want return dowry, she replied saying that she too want divorce, but she want her dowry to be returned. How should she proceed legally. Kindly suggest and please save her life as she is unable to bear the pressure. Thanking You.

She may lodge a complaint with the police under sections 406 and 498-A IPC. Besides, she may also file appropriate complaint under the Domestic Violence Act.
