Legal Question in Family Law in India

I am being trapped in a false dowry case.

Few weeks back my marriage was fixed with a girl. After few days we got to know from sources that she has illnesses due to which her physical state won't improve. We do not have proof about this. On this basis we cancelled the wedding 10 days before the wedding date. The girl's side has filed a false dowri complaint against us. Police summoned and took my statement. Our complaint was also filed but was 1 day later then theirs. Police and everyone is suggesting to settle the matter by giving whatever the girl's side is asking for. But they are asking too much and I can't afford it.

Please help me how can I get out of this?

In how many days I can get an anticipatory bail and what are lawyers charges (roughly) for it?

If I have anticipatory bail, can the police still arrest me for few hours and torture me? We have enough reason to believe that police is biased and are in connection (bribed) with the girl's side!

Please help...

Hi,

Present the matter to senior police officers.plz take anticipatory bail.charges depends on no. Of accused & other factors.

Police can't arrest you in case of anticipatory bail is obtained by you unless you violate the conditions, if any imposed by the court

Suggest try to collect evidence for your side

If you or your family have taken any money or gifts from the girl-side, you should return the same. The provisions of Dowry Act may not be applicable to your case. Based upon what ceremonies were performed, e.g. engagement etc., a case for cheating may be registered. You may apply for anticipatory bail only after a case, if any, is registered. However,it may be better to make efforts for an amicable out of court settlement.
