converting to islam is no solution if the marriage was under hindu law. the marriage needs to be dissolved under Hindu Religion only. regarding the time, no lawyer can predict the time frame but a lawyer can only expedite the hearings by pleading.
Conversion to Islam as a short-cut to divorce may result in your criminal prosecution for fraud. However, one may wait for amendment in law to incorporate "irretrievable breakdown of marriage" as one of the grounds. The proposed amendment has already been approved by the Cabinet and may shortly become law.
colorful conversion for getting some advantage is no conversion in law. If you have got good & strong grounds for cruelty it may help you as a ground for obtaining divorce. It requires minimum 2 to 3 years in case divorce is contested. Maximum period can't be estimated.
