If wife stays in her parent's house due to problem with in-laws, but keep in touch with her husband through regular phone calls, can husband's family suit a desertion case against her?

Hello,
If, wife always intended to come back to husband and only issue is problem with in-laws than no desertion. Court will ask husband to adjust and accommodate with wife in separate premises. (depends upon financial position of husband)

calling husband does not mitigate desertion as she is not staying with husband and not going for restitution of conjugal rights.
