Legal Question in Civil Litigation in India

contempt of court petition

I am thinking of compromising a civil suit in which the High Court Judge has ordered issue of show cause notices for contempt of court through a separate petition in the same suit . My question: If I compromise/withdraw the civil suit, would contempt of court petition against the contemnors still stand, or be liable to be dismissed alongwith the main petition .

Contempt of Court proceedings are independent proceedings. However i fail to understand how contempt of court proceedings are initiated in a civil suit. Nevertheless after compromising the suit, the contempt petition would continue. If it is a statutory authority which failed to comply with a direction, and if the direction is complied in view of the settlement then you can request the court to drop contempt proceedings in view of compliance.
