i am sukumar mondal staying at kolkata central area with my mom, my father died 12 years ago but my landlord still giving the rent receipt in his name till date, in this last 12 years our rent has been increased to rs.75 to rs.500 (for one room measuring 150 sq ft) nowadays he is taking the rent but not giving the rent receipt and harassing us to leave the room. pls advice what to do?

Dear Sukumar,

Since your father is deceased, the landlord is legally bound to transfer the tenancy in the name of your mother, and issue rent receipts mentioning the revised rent amounts in her name for all the pending months.

Please write a letter to your landlord asking him to comply with the above two requirements within the next 15 days, failing which you will report the matter to the local Police Station.
