Hi, my friend was working on a cruise ship he has C-1D Visa he completed his 1st contract and came back home. On second contract he never aboard ship he stayed on land in USA. When i talk to him he told that if he will stay there for 5 years he wil get green card. Is it true? Or what position he is? Can you give some suggestions. Pls.

No. that is not true. if is living illegally in USA, he may never get a green card; on the contrary there is a risk of his being arrested and sent to jail for an indefinite period. he should return to his home country as soon as possible to avoid any prosecution.
Mr.Sudershan is right. But if your friend is having any other visa and staying legally then he can get green card.
