about passport of an illiterate and no proof of dob

if someone is illiterate and he is around 40 years of age and he dont have any proof of date of birth, so what is the legal process to apply for passport in india by an indian citizen.

please guide through this.

You may obtain a birth certificate from the Registrar of Births & Deaths of the area where the person was born.
