Are computer software/programmes patentable under Indian Laws?

Computer software/programmes are not patentable under Indian Law. However, computer programmes and computer data bases have been considered as literay works for the purposes of copyright protection. The Indian Copyright Act, 1957 specifically protects computer programmes.
