Legal Question in Intellectual Property in India

This is a copyright law question under what I understand is the India Copyright Act of 1914.

History: A series of spoken messages were given in the 1930s in Europe. Presumably with permission, those messages were compiled and edited and first published as a book in 1957 in Bombay India, and republished in 1958 in England with some revisions.

The speaker who released those messages died in 1972.

We are interested in translating this book into other languages, e.g., Spanish, Russian, etc. Our questions are:

1) what is the copyright term for the book that was published in 1957 in India? Does the Copyright Act of 1914 apply? Who is considered the author of the book and owns the copyright?

2) has the book entered into the public domain such that we can translate it without permission from the publisher (which we presume is the copyright holder)?

Thank you!
