Trademark application

What does it mean when the examiner of a trademark mentions in his FER that a mark applied for is (a) non-distinctive, and (b) asks to explain the significance of the mark?

you have to explain that how your mark is different from all other marks and how it is attached to your business or you.

then you shoul explain him about your mark. like if u r using that since long time or since when u r using that, u must produce the evidence to him etc. or if u r going to use mark, then in 'additional representation' sheet 'pruposed to be used' would b e mentioned.
