Director is also an employee of the company. However, their roles in respect of the company is different. You can read the Companies Act for the same.

You may refer to the relevant provisions of Companies Act.
The Directors represent the share-holders and may or may not get any regular salary / remuneration ; whereas the employees may have no relationship with the share holders and are on pay-roll of the company based upon their term of employment.
