Legal Question in Employment Law in India

I left an organisation and joined a competitor. My first employer now threatens me with a legal case as the appointment letter said that I can not join a competition for 2 years after leaving services.
Does this rule exist in India ? Many people have been doing this on regular basis and my understanding is that the rule in India is not applicable . please suggest

The said rule without doubt is applicable in India. Normally the caluses of "Non-Compete","Non-Solicitation" and "Confidentiality" are in almost every employments agreements and the same are executable under law by companies if violated. Any how it depends upon the exact wordings and phrases used in the agreements without which we could not give any opinion. You have a wrong conception.This rule is applicablein India also to check and maintain the confidiality of a particular company.However,details are required to be examined to give any opinion or in order to suggest any remedy in your case.So,contact with details,professional charges are applicable.
