Harassment after leaving the employment

One of my friend was working with a leading auto ancillary company which is making auto parts of proprietory nature.My friend was working with a unit where it contains only manufacturing facility and left the job and joined some other company of different product.After working for 2 months he left the new company and joined another company which makes similar auto components of proprietory nature.

Now the old company management is harassing my friend by not paying the dues and holding PF & superanuation and threatening to take action against him.They are also trying to threaten the existing employess by threatening by taking a signature on a paper which states that '' i will pay Rs 3 lakhs if i leave the company within 3 years and join the competetors company''.

Does this action really atracts any legal obligation on an employee if he leaves a company unit where only manufacturing setup is there and no r&d etc are there. Please clarify such that i can help my friend.
