Legal Question in Landlord & Tenant Law in India
I am staying in a pagdi system residential building in south mumbai with my brother for the past 13 yrs.as we stay on the top floor of the 4 storeyed building, the height of the said flat is about 15ft.Recently i have constructed a 70 sq ft loft in one of the rooms and using it as a bedroom without the landlords permission.the landlord came to know about this and has sent a legal motice to demolish the said loft.i would like to know if i can go legally into this matter as i have in no way harmed the buildings structure.more so on negotiating, the landlord has asked for a astronomical sum which is totally out of reach for me and absurd for a wodden loft of 70 sq ft.pls help

You can do adjustments inside without disturbing the main structures. At the time of vacating you have to hand over the premises in the original condition. If the wooden loft is not permanent in nature then you don't have to worry. Let the landlord go to court and in the court you can defend the matter.
