When i was working in Pune i rented a flat and due to somew official work i was away for 6months and i could not pay the owners rent as i lost my job, but recently i went a paid them the rent as they have opened the lock and cleared all my belongings without intimating me and took them into their possession. NHow still they have my computer with them as i need to pay the balance rent. but when i checked my belongings other than my computer there are so many things missing and now they say they are not responsible so whom should i ask as i lost so many disigner wear dresses and one mobile and so many other metirial things. whom should i ask and does they have right to break and open the door in my absense with out giving me any notice. when i met them the owner and his wife threatend me and my mother that they belong to a big family and they have political connections and they have their relatives in Police and they would not return my things. plz suggest me a way to handle this. Monthly rent was 16000/- and i paid them 1lakh 20thousand till now and other 10thousand to the rent agent.

Your remedy will depend upon the contract you signed at the time of taking flat on rent.
However, law apart, what would you expect the landlord to do when you lock the premises without any communication or payment of rent? The official work did not stop you from payment of rent regularly. In the modern day world one could set up payment on-line. And if the landlord has rented out premises for meeting his usual expense, you just left them guessing? Your statement does not disclose any plausible explanation for not making regular rent payments. Rather your statement is contradictory - you were away for six months for "official work" and then you said you could not pay the owners rent as you lost the job.
You do not seem to have been "wronged" by your landlord; on the contrary it appears you "wronged" them; therefore, in the given situation, you may better try for an amicable out of court settlement instead of considering litigation as an option.
