Legal Question in Legal Ethics in India
Company acquisitions
Dow chemicals acquired Union Carbide, the company associated with the Bhopal Gas tragedy in India. Dow says that since it never owned or operated the Bhopal plant it is not liable for the damages or clean-up associated with the Bhopal plant. Is Dow right? Is this claim specific to India? What is the precedent for this in the US?
