Legal Question in Real Estate Law in India

i am 26 years old,while talking to one of my relatives i have discovered that my great grandfather had received a property by the government during partition.........but none of my family members knew about it and so didnt claim for it........now i just saw those papers and found out that my great grandfather had received a property from the rehabilitation departrment...but when he went to acquire it...he couldnt as it was a case of dual allotment and some one had already acquired it.....so he went back to the rehabilitation department and asked them to show him another property,which the rehabilitation department had agreed to show....at this time i found out that our lawyer had expired and my grandfather was on bed rest.....can i claim this property?
