Legal Question in Real Estate Law in India

My parents bought the land and constructed the house we are living now with collaboration of a friend of their's. Due to quarrel, this friend left our house (in 1999) where we stayed together .Since all these years we repaired,constructed and did what were necessary for the house!My father paid all the taxes and bills (documents are there) necessary. Now that our house is nearly complete, this friend calls my father and asks for money for his share,and also offers to give us money for ours if we are willing to move out. But my father is an ex-manager of a bank. We do not have that much money. The property is amalgamated. What chance do we have against his proposal?? Please help!
