Legal Question in Real Estate Law in India

I am a person of Indian origin living in the USA. I have property in India left to me by my late father. He died some 60 years age. The property papers are not traceable. The DRO of the city help me to identify the property. Certified copies of the deed can be obtained by giving notice in the daily papers. How do I authenticate my ownership via inheritance? The property still is in my fathers� name. Thanks, sohan

you need to file a petition for succession and once the succession is granted, you can become the owner by inheritance. where is the property situate?
