about settlement of property

My father had left a house property and he expired without leaving a will. The legal heir to him are my mother, brother, me and my two sisters. Sisters and mother have agreed to settle or release their share to the two brothers.

a document is being organized and to be registered for the settlement.

what is the further steps to be followed for change in name of the property into our name . Property is located in Chennai, India

You need to apply to concerned Land Officer called City Survey Officer for mutation of names of legal heirs and deletion of names of heirs who have released their rights by a registered Deed of Release on the revenue record called Property Register Card. Upon mutation in the revenue records, you can attach that extract for changing names in municipal and other records.

You have to make necessary application with the Concerned Taluk Office/Thasildar office with the registered copy of the settlement deed for mutation of name in the revenue records and thereafter you have to approach concerned muncipal dept. for mutation of names in the other records such as property tax assesment etc.
