"Live and let live." Get to like people.

Not all of us find we can be diplomatic. But we can all be kind. Control that impulse to say the cutting thing, the "truth" that will leave a barb of hurt. You can cultivate the ability to engage in interesting conversation. The first thing you need to do is to like people. If you like people, your interests will enlarge and your field of friendship will expand. It is people who make music, make love, make life. Once you grasp that, you will inevitably find your interest quicken; you will keep in touch with what goes on in your world, not because it is required, but because its fascinating. Complaining is contagious. It rubs off on the other person, and remembering it, he / she avoids you the next time. Make your conversation grow out of your own life's fullness, and you will listen out of liking and interest for the other person. It is magnetic.
