Joint Accounts - Survivor or Heir

My father passed away and has a joint NRI account in Chennai, India with my step-mother. He has indicated in his will that I receive all the residue from his estate. Will that allow me to claim a portion of the balance in his joint account?

Please note that having joint account does not entitle the ownership of the balance amount. You can claim for the amount as per will.
