no witness only signs to attest the fact that the testator has signed teh will in his presence

yes, a witness has to know the full contents of the will and unless he knows that he must not sign them. he also has to make sure that neither he nor the executor is signing under any pressure.

the witness is legally expected to have seen the testator execute and sign the document in their prescence. their knowledge that, the testator had executed the will -knowing the facts - of the will is what expected!

Legally speaking the answer to your question is big NO. There is no such condition. Only thing the witness is required to say is that he saw the testator signing the will.
