A surety bond is one which is posted by a bail bondsman. Generally you will pay the bondsman a fee equal to 10% of the amount of the bond, and he will post the bond for your husband's release. If your husband is held on a $5000 surety bond, you will need to pay a bondsman $500 in order for him to post the bond for your husband's release. The $500 paid to the bondsman is his fee and will be kept by him regardless of the outcome of the case.
