What do I do to defend an inaccurate mechanics lien on two of my cars?

I had a "family friend" tow my two cars to his property to fix them. I gave him $500.00 for the towing. For a year he told me he was trying to fix them, then finally just a few months ago he told me he didn't have time to fix my cars because he had too much to do. So I told him I would just come and get them. He told me he wanted money for storage. Then he filed a mechanics lien on them for $5000.00! He says I never paid for the initial tow and he wants legal and storage fees. The papers he sent look like a bogus scam and I need legal help to try to get my cars back.

You can sue him in small claims court to get your cars back. You may even be entitled to more money if you can prove theft by fraud. Call my office and ask to speak to my paralegal, or call the secondary number I have listed and you can reach her. We can help you with this.
