Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Indiana

Adversary Proceeding during bankruptcy

I have filed bankruptcy, and one of my creditors has filed an Adversary proceeding. My attorney wants a $1000 retainer and estimates that it will cost $2500.

I want to file the paperwork myself and don't really know where to begin. Can I do this myself? And if I can, what do I have to do?

Re: Adversary Proceeding during bankruptcy

Your attorney's request for fees is very reasonable, and after you stumble around trying to do this yourself, you will think it would have been money well spent. If you insist, however, the first and most important thing to do is file and serve an answer within the time limit specified (usually 20, that's twenty, days, plus three if served by mail. Do it in twenty.) After that, you must carefully comply with the court's instructions concerning case management and you must carefully comply with the adversary's discovery requests. You better get to a library and do as much reading on the matter as possible.
