Legal Question in Bankruptcy in Indiana
Bankruptcy vs. Credit counseling
I've contacted CCC about getting my finances in order, but I've been scared off by people who have used them and who say creditors have actually told them they would have been better off filing bankruptcy. I'm 26, a single mom and have worked since I was 16, but things have caught up with me and I need to do something to get out of this quicksand. With medical bills and having been laid off twice, I put myself through school, only to find that the field I had chosen doesn't pay much at all. How much does it take to file on an average and how much do I need to come in for a consultation?

Re: Bankruptcy vs. Credit counseling
While I am sure there are some good and helpful "credit counseling services" out there, the ones my clients have dealt with have not helped them.
As far as bankruptcy goes, there is no substitute for meeting with a bankruptcy lawyer and discussing your personal financial situation to determine how best to proceed. Many bankruptcy lawyers offer a free initial consultation for 30 minutes or so. Take someone up on it.
Good luck.
