Re: car

I take it from your question that the following facts are true: (1) you co-signed for your son to buy a car; (2) he bought it from his employer, an auto repair shop of some sort; (3) you think your son bought insurance; (4) he had a wreck, but his employer advised him not to report it to the insurance company, then the employer repaired the car, all without your knowledge; (5) after awhile, your son is no longer employed there; (6) then your son had another wreck, which he reported to the insurer, which paid, but left an amount owing to the finance company, which they want to collect from you. Now you wonder if you should get a lawyer and if finance company can make you pay. I say, you might be able to interest an attorney in the problem. The car-dealing employer behaved very kindly to your son, the time they asked him not to report the first accident. But I wonder if they had somehow taken the money for insurance premiums but failed to buy the insurance. Ask your county bar association for a referral to an attorney with experience in consumer litigation. Get all the documents about the insurance coverage and car purchase. And put your son on the hot seat, sweat him a little, make sure you have all the facts. If you can't prove that someone jimmied the books, then you and your son will have to pay the deficiency. Good luck.
