You want lawyers to talk out loud about their fees? Anything is possible. But since you limit your question to Chapter 13 fees - there is a wide range of fees centering at about $2,000 per case. Rarely do lawyers require the entire amount up front. Most of the time we accept a portion of the fee and place the balance into the plan. We all require full payment of the filing fees and any other out-of-pocket expenses. You should be mindful that under the new bankruptcy law, even chapter 13 filers must comply with stringent record-producing requirements. So get all your bank statements, wage and business income data in shape. And you will need a certificate from a credit counseling agency before you can file, which costs extra, and after you file you need another certificate from debtor education course, which also costs extra.
